Galileo, the Medici & the Age of Astronomy was created from the fusion of two exhibitions, I Medici e le Scienze (The Medici and Science) which was first on exhibit in Florence at Florence at Palazzo Pitti from May 15, 2008 to January 10, 2009, and Galileo's Telescope which was presented at the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza from March 4, 2008 to January 31, 2009. The travelling version of Galileo’s Telescope was shown in Beijing from October 15, 2008 to January 10, 2009.
More than 90 original instruments from the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza are displayed in the exhibition hosted by the prestigious Franklin Institute of Philadelphia. One of the two only remaining telescopes of Galileo will be amongst those on display as well as a series of portraits of the Medicean Grand Dukes that come from various institutions of the Florentine Polo Museale. Galileo, the Medici & the Age of Astronomy has been made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Officine Panerai.
