On the tricentenary anniversary of the birth of Linnaeus (Carl af Linné, 1707-1778), the Institute and Museum of the History of Science and the University of Pisa, in addition to organizing an international conference (held in Pisa June 9-10, 2006), have initiated a project with the goal of publishing online several rare and important Italian editions of the Swedish naturalist. A large part of the collection is conserved at the Biblioteca Universitaria of Pisa.
Access to the digital collection is available via a structured list or by searching the library's OPAC. Digital acquisition of the documents is carried out at 400 DPI 8-bit (TIFF, jpeg2000 or PNG ) greyscale. For online consultation, the resolution is 150 DPI jpeg 80% (enlargements max 600 pixels, jpeg 80%).
For input of the metadata, which allow consultation of texts through a structured index, the MAG format has been utilized.
