Restoration Laboratory
The Institute and Museum of the History of Science is equipped with a Restoration Laboratory, directed by Andrea Rabbi. In general, the Laboratory is engaged in cleaning and routine maintenance of the wooden and metallic parts of the instruments displayed in the Museum or kept in the Storage Deposits. The experience of the technicians and craftsmen who work in the Laboratory also allows them to carry out, in collaboration with the curators, delicate repair work on instruments in a poor state of conservation. For example, much of the severe damage to the Museum's collections caused by the 1966 flood in Florence has been repaired expressly by the Restoration Laboratory. .................................
