New Acquisitions
.....................
Although the core of the collections in the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza consists of the imposing heritage of scientific instruments collected by the Grand Dukes of Tuscany of the Medici and Lorraine dynasties, the possibility of incrementing the historical collections with new acquisitions has never been overlooked. To make up for any lack in the Grand Ducal collections, especially as concerns the Florentine, Tuscan and Italian instrument-makers of the past, it often becomes necessary to monitor the sale on the antique market, by international auction houses, of instruments that are privately owned. On condition that they fall within the field of interest of the collections, the Museum also welcomes instruments and documents generously donated by private companies and individuals. .................................
