TELESCOPES
|
Terrestrial
telescope |
A large number of terrestrial telescopes, clearly manufactured in England, are included in the Medici collection. These telescopes come from the model made around the mid seventeenth century by the German optician Johann Wiesel (1583-1662) from Augsburg. The telescope typically resembles a cannon. The smallest section of the instrument's tube always holds the objective, the largest the eyepiece. |
