Thanks to a stipulated agreement between the City of Florence, the Institute and Museum of the History of Science and the Scuola Professionale Edile di Firenze, the work to install a great sundial in Piazza dei Gudici has officially begun. This venture is made possible by the generous contribution of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze and the support of the Chamber of Commerce.
The topographic survey of the paved area in front of the Museo di Storia della Scienza – where the sundial will be raised – was carried out in October by the students of a surveying course from the Scuola Profesionale Edile and coordinated by Professor Marco Bini from the Architecture School of the University of Florence. The inauguration of this new Florentine landmark is scheduled to take place on December 17, 2007.
